Code of Conduct

In 2008, the Northern Territory Parliament passed the Legislative Assembly (Members' Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards) Act.  The Act sets out enforceable principles of ethical conduct and standards of behaviour for Members of the Legislative Assembly.

The Code is based on the principles of integrity, accountability, responsibility and acting in the public interest. Breaches of the Code of Conduct can lead to Members being referred to the Privileges Committee by which they can be reprimanded, removed from the Assembly and, in extreme circumstances, jailed.
