Four-year fixed terms

In 2008, the Territory Government introduced fixed four-year terms for Territory elections.  This was done to reduce public uncertainty and speculation around election dates and to provide certainty for the business community, the public service and voters.

In addition to fixed four-year terms, the government introduced three more sittings days per year, live streaming of Parliament, a code of conduct, a modern registry of members’ interests and whistleblowers legislation.
