An accountable and open government

Over the past 10 years, the Territory Government has introduced legislation and initiatives to hold the government, the Northern Territory Public Sector and Members of the Legislative Assembly accountable for their actions.

These include:

  • the Northern Territory  Public Sector Principles and Code of Conduct
  • the Legislative Assembly Members’ Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards
  • the Ombudsman Act
  • the Estimates Committee
  • whistleblower legislation.

These processes allow the public to closely scrutinise the Northern Territory Public Sector, the Territory Government and Members of the Legislative Assembly and ensure that they act in the public’s interest.
